PIEDMONT SLAM is a registered venue of Poetry Slam Inc. (PSI). PIEDMONT SLAM is the predecessor to the Winston-Salem Poetry Slam Team

The Winston Salem Poetry Slam was one of the first poetry slams in the nation.  In 1994 the WS Slam Team placed fifth in the nation at the National Poetry Slam. The WS Slam Team participated every year without interruption until 2007.  In that time they placed as high as tenth and at the National Poetry Slam in Providence, RI, team member Nell Britton placed tenth in the nation in the Individual finals.  The Winston Salem Slam Team has been  known for its diversity and its consistent discovery of local talent.
